The Cleaner is required to work Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Reporting to the Manager, Shelters and Shelter Programs, the Cleaner is responsible for the general cleaning activities at one or more Dixon Hall program site locations. The Cleaner will also be responsible for routine ground maintenance, including snow removal, minor repairs, and painting, as required. The day-to-day duties of the Cleaner will be supervised by the program manager of the location at which they are working.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for general cleaning activities at Dixon Hall shelter sites
- Perform routine ground maintenance, including snow removal, minor repairs, and painting, as required.
- Work safely at all times following Health and Safety policies and procedures, and report any potential hazards, faults, or problems to the Manager or appropriate emergency contact.
- Follow all program specific policies, procedures, and best practices for health, safety, and infection control.
- Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision, and Values of Dixon Hall.
- Work collaboratively with the manager and other Dixon Hall staff and volunteers
- Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events
- Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned within the purview of the job description.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned from time to time
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Proficiency in using cleaning and maintenance equipment.
- Demonstrable experience in cleaning and maintenance; trained in the procedures and practices of commercial property cleaning and maintenance.
- Demonstrable skills in carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair and be familiar with and able to use such tools as may be required for such maintenance functions.
- Experience with the safe use of cleaning chemicals and fluids and understands requirements under WHIMS legislation.
- Strong verbal and written English language skill; fluency in additional languages, relevant to the communities of service, will be considered an asset.
- Able to read and understand basic cleaning instructions and information, including health and safety directives.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, the public and outside contractors in a respectful and professional manner.
- Superior organizational and problem-solving abilities; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, prioritize, take initiative.
- Ability to work under pressure and deal with multiple tasks including difficult or emergency situations.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization, with the public and outside contractors when necessary, in a respectful and professional manner
- Demonstrated experience working within a diverse community setting.
- Self-motivated and able to complete required tasks with minimal supervision.
- Is sensitive to challenges and needs of the client population residing in the shelter(s)
- Ability to work flexible hours in accordance with the needs of Dixon Hall’s shelters.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR certification an asset
- Must be qualified to legally work in Canada for the employer.
- Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
- Up-to-date vaccination against COVID-19 with a vaccine approved for use in Canada.
